President Obama arrived at his inauguration earlier this week in a new Cadillac Presidential Limousine, which includes many of the brand's signature design elements.
As the first all-new Presidential limousine since the 2004 Cadillac DTS built for President George W. Bush, the new car has roughly the same overall footprint as the previous model and similar proportions. The dual-textured grille and vertical head- and taillamps are reminiscent of those seen on Cadillac's STS and DTS sedans, while the technologically advanced cabin features executive seating with upholstery that has been cut and sewn by hand. An embroidered presidential seal is positioned in the center of the rear seat back and on each rear door trim panel.
The purpose-built vehicle has been specially designed for presidential use to specifications provided by the US Secret Service. Developed and tested by specialists, the vehicle features an armored body, 8-inch-thick doors, bulletproof glass, a separate oxygen supply and an airtight interior to protect against a chemical attack. It was subjected to an extreme testing regimen to ensure performance in the field.
