Concept Car : Dodge Demon 2010

The Dodge Demon Concept is a compact, nimble roadster with attitude and an attainable dream car, according to its maker. To us, it was Chryslers answer to the Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5, Pontiac Solstice, and Saturn Sky. In early 2008, Chrysler announced the production version will use a front-wheel-drive chassis sourced from Chinese automaker Chery, so the Demons sporting pretensions may be in question.

As youve probably heard, former owner Mercedes-Benz sold a majority in Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management. So it is not a complete surprise that the Demons mission may have changed along with ownership of the company. Assuming a best-case outcome, the general view is that your local Dodge Boys could be selling Demons by model-year 2010.

The 2010 Dodge Demon bowed in concept-car form at the 2007 Geneva Auto Salon in Switzerland, which observers took as a sign that the Demon would spearhead a major Dodge sales push into overseas markets, where the brand is largely unknown.

Chrysler has lately been trying to increase its non-U.S. business, no surprise given recent sales reverses at home. Its not hard to imagine the Demon introducing Dodge as a sporty performance brand to Europe, as well as to fast-growing markets like China.

The 2010 Dodge Demon would be a halo vehicle to spark sales of mainstream fare like the compact Caliber hatchback and Avenger sedan. All of which explains why the Demon concept looks so realistic and producible compared to your average pie-in-the-sky show car.

Styling of the 2010 Dodge Demon borrows cues from the hulking V-10 Dodge Viper and would likely carry over with little change from the Demon concept. Ditto dimensions, which are very close to those of the Pontiac Solstice.

The Dodge Demon Concept used a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission. At this point it is unclear if the 2010 Dodge Demon will use an engine that is part of the U.S.-built Global Alliance family shared with Mitsubishi and Hyundai, or an engine sourced from Chery.

The Dodge Demon Concept sported 19-inch wheels, which could be a bit much for a showroom model. Expect 17s to be standard, with 18s optional.

2010 Dodge Demon Concept Car

Other concept features would likely survive with little or no alteration. These include the semi-retro cockpit design heavy on brushed-metal trim (or facsimiles); a manual-folding cloth top that hides beneath a hard cover just behind the cockpit; and a stubby rollbar behind each seat to protect occupants in case of a flip.

The rest of the 2010 Dodge Demon package will hinge on marketing decisions based heavily on competitors pricing, but standards should include modern must-haves such as antilock disc brakes, traction control, and seat-mounted torso side airbags. We also wouldnt rule out a turbocharged Demon as a year-two addition with standard stability control, performance-tuned suspension and special trim.

One thing that might be changed is the name, a point missed entirely by press reports weve seen. Perhaps the writers are too young to remember, but Dodge used Demon way back in 1971-72 for its version of the popular compact Plymouth Duster, complete with logo decals of a cute little cartoon devil. It was all innocent fun, Dodge thought, but some people thought otherwise and wrote nasty letters, enough that Dodge adopted the prosaic Dart Sport handle. Such are the perils of modern automotive marketing.

Concept Car : MOY

The contest winner, MOY concept car was designed by Elvis Tomljenovic received first price in contest held during auto(r) automotive design conference in Zagreb, Croatia. Elvis Tomljenovic is student of the Zagreb School of Design. Elvis Tomljenovic is finishing student of the Zagreb School of Design. He is currently looking for sponsors/scholarships to continue education in field of automotive design at postgraduate level.

MOY concept is made for generation who uses technology as a means to express themselves and communicate with others. The idea behind MOY concept is that everyone can design their own car on their own computer and then apply the design to the vehicle using wireless data transfer or share it with other people through web-site, forum, e-mail etc. To those who lack the necessary skills or time to create their own design, we offer the option of downloading ready made designs. The vehicles are interconnected, so the change is possible in motion. Movement recognition technology enables us to draw on the car in real time.

Since MOY can display both static images and videos, it can be used as a new medium of promotion. Vehicle is powered by batteries that charge electro motors set in wheels and controlled by drive-by-wire technology. The body of the car is made of outer and inner polycarbonate layers, with layers of liquid crystals, LED diodes and electro chromic foil (film) in between.

auto(r) is the biggest automotive design conference in Europe in 2009 and the first ever held in South East Europe (SEE). The conference theme: Professional automotive designers from SEE, born or originated. This is the first time ever that this subject has been taken to the public. A title auto(r) has been chosen because it combines two words - automobile and author. Our mission is to present designers as authors of automobile designs.

Concept Car : Drool Over Green Car

WIRED collected the winners of the Royal College of Arts Green Concept Car competition. As they say:

Practicality is the last thing anyone considers when designing concept cars. A car made of glass? Windows like gun slits? But practicality isnt the point. Concept cars are flights of fantasy carrying auto design into the future. Since our future will be a place where a gallon of gas costs more than a gallon of Scotch, the students at Royal College of Art designed their cars that run on things like electricity and algal fuel.

These are some of the most imaginitive and forward-thinking designs weve ever seen. Lots of people try to do advanced concepts, but some of these are off the moon. The above car was designed by Paul Howse its a luxury car called the Enigma, and its electric motors would be solar-powered. Oh, and the passenger compartment uses magnetic levitation to lift and separate it from the rest of the car.

Holy crap, it makes that Minority Report Lexus look like an AMC Gremlin.

Check the link to see them all; theyre all worth a gander. Some are made of cloth, others have living room-inspired interiors that have high levels of IKEA-like customization possible. Beautiful.

Below is the winner of the Best Design Interpretation Award at the Pilkington Automotive Vehicle Design Awards. Frenchie Pierre Sabas Airflow has wheel-mounted electric motors and is made entirely of glass.

Concept Car : Morgan Fuel-Cell

I suppose, these auto shows will never stop surprising us and car creators will never get tired of making new and completely great cars. Have you ever heard about Morgan? Yeah, but apart from a famous fashion apparel brand, it is the traditional British car brand, and it has officially announced that it is going to launch a LifeCar concept, that is a hydrogen-fueled car possessing a wood-frame body. This super car will be presented at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show.

Needless to say, that the LifeCar is a zero-emissions car. How does it look like? As for me it looks like a combination of the Aero 8, but with extremely large coverings on the wheels. Resembles concept and not a real car. Apart from it super natural body, it looks too sophisticated. According to Morgan such prominent companies as Oscar Automotive, QinetiQ, Oxford University and Linde took part in its development.

There is a new model in the Aero range - the Morgan Aero 8 America. Starting price looks like this $115,000 and you will get graphite side scoops, a rear diffuser, and side exit exhausts. As to its interior, we have a deal with full quilted leather. Engine: 4.4-liter BMW V8.

Blowout Pedal Car Auction Comming to Hershey PA

Now this is odd: apparently, some people gather in person, in a single place and on a fixed date, and even require the purchase of tickets in advance, all to auction off items of some rarity and value. No website, no PayPal, no Buy it Now, no nothing. Cuh-razy.
So crazy, it makes the idea of spending hundreds of craftsman-hours customizing, finishing and transforming eleven old-timey Champion Comet pedal cars into unique works of automotive toy art seem as sober as an actuary.
But there you go. On October 8th in Hershey, Pennsylvania, RM Auctions is conducting a charity auction to benefit the Museum of the Antique Automobile Club of America, at which point this glorious fleet of pedal cars will be dispersed to the four corners of America's four-car garages.

The Jaguar S-Type

jaguar s type, jaguar, jaguars, cars, classic cars

The Jaguar S-Type saloon was built by British car manufacturer Jaguar. It was announced in 1963, but actual deliveries didn't begin till 1964.
The S-Type came with the 3.4 or 3.8 L I6 Jaguar XK engine.
Slower and heavier than the Jaguar Mark 2, The S-Type had a better ride.
In the United States, the only engine offered was the 3.8 L engine, until the larger 4.2 L engine was introduced in the Jaguar 420.
The S-Type was replaced in August 1968 with the release of the larger Jaguar XJ6, but the name was brought back in 2000 for the retro-styled mid-range Jaguar S-Type.

The Jaguar Mark 2

The Jaguar Mark 2, also known as Mk2, Mk 2 or MkII, is a medium sized saloon (sedan) car built during the 1950s and 1960s by Jaguar.
Rated at over over 200 bhp and with a top speed of about 125 mph, these sedans were often used as police patrol cars. But on the flip side, they were often used as getaway cars by bank robbers.
The Mark 2 was eventually replaced by the XJ6.

The Jaguar Mark 1

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Jaguar Mark 1 was a saloon car (sedan) produced by Jaguar between the years 1955 and 1959.

Originally known as the 2.4 and 3.4 'Compact' saloons, they have come to be called "Mark 1" to fit with their more famous successor, the Mark 2. They were the company's first "small" saloon since the demise of its 1 Litre cars in 1949 and were an immediate success, easily outselling the larger Jaguar saloons.

A 2.4 litre saloon with overdrive was tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1956. It was found to have a top speed of 101.5 mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 14.4 seconds. Not exactly burning up the road compared to other Jags. A fuel consumption of 18.25 miles per imperial gallon (15.20 mpg US) was recorded. The test car cost 1532 including taxes.

They went on to test a 3.4 litre automatic saloon in 1957. This car had a top speed of 119.8 mph (192.8 km/h), acceleration from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 11.2 seconds and a fuel consumption of 21.1 miles per imperial gallon (17.6 mpg US) was recorded. The test car cost 1864 including taxes of 622.

The Jaguar Mark IV

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Jaguar Mark IV, pronounced mark four, was a saloon (sedan) car built by Jaguar from 1945 to 1949.
It was a relaunch of a pre World War II model made by SS Cars Ltd from 1936.

Before World War 2 the name Jaguar was the model name given to the complete range of cars built by SS Cars Ltd. The saloons were titled SS Jaguar 1 litre, 2 litre or 3 litre. The two seater sports car was titled the SS Jaguar 100 2 litre or 3 litre.

After the war the company name was changed to Jaguar Cars Ltd. While the post war saloons were officially the Jaguar 1 litre, 2 litre and the 3 Litre, the term 'Mark IV' was applied by the trade simply to seperate them from the officially named Mark V.

http://www.saloondata.com/ is an online site that keeps track of all the Classic Jaguar Saloon's still around.

Jaguar recalls some XFs for faulty seat belts

If you have a 2009 Jaguar XF, you should hop down to your dealer to have the rear safety belt assembly looked at. Jaguar is recalling 7,900 of the '09 cars because in an accident the rear occupants might not be properly restrained.

The Porsche Cayman

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Porsche Cayman is a mid-engined 2-seat sports car produced by Porsche AG of Germany. First launched in the 2006 model year, the Cayman is the coup version of the second generation Porsche Boxster convertible. Like the Boxster, the Cayman is assembled in Finland by Valmet Automotive.

The performance of the Cayman S approaches that of Porsche's flagship sports car, the 911 Carrera. Rally legend Walter Rhrl lapped the Nrburgring Nordschleife track in a Cayman S equipped with optional 19" wheels, PCCB, and PASM in a time of 8 minutes, 11 seconds. The time for a standard Cayman S, as published by the manufacturer, was 8 minutes, 20 seconds. In contrast, Rhrl recorded 8 minutes, 15 seconds in a 911 Carrera. The similarity in performance between the two cars has led to speculation about whether the Cayman S will cannibalize sales of the Carrera, as the basic Carrera's recommended retail price in the United States is $12,400 higher than that of the Cayman S.

A Cayman prepared and run by privateers Jrgen and Uwe Alzen finished fourth overall (of 220 entrants) in the 2007 running of the Nrburgring 24 Hour race, ahead of two flagship Porsche 997 GT3 RSR's, a 997 GT3 Cup, and a 996 GT3 Cup. Another two privateer Caymans, entered by CSR and MSpeed, finished 22nd and 117th overall, respectively. Porsche disclaims support for the Cayman teams, while supporting some or all of the 997 teams.

A performance car feature which is not available from Porsche for the Cayman is limited slip differential (LSD). Some commentators have speculated that LSD is not offered, even as an option, because the Cayman S's performance would then be too close to the 911 Carrera. Several tuning companies offer Cayman buyers the ability to retrofit a LSD.
