Subaru has news for you. There�s little to distinguish the 2011 model from its 2010 counterpart. Up front, the grille and swept headlights work together to create a cohesive look that draws your eye down the side of the vehicle. Details like large insets for fog lights, flared fenders and boxy side-view mirrors help give the Forester more of an SUV flavor than other compact high-riders out there, and while we miss some of the wagon aspects of older Foresters.

Inside, there are includes the decorative swath of silver trim helps to brighten the cabin, the cockpit is still a little dark for our tastes. The driver is treated to a well-sorted steering wheel with controls for cruise, hands-free calling and the stereo within reach, and the set of somewhat plain gauges are easy to read day or night. 2011 Subaru Forester uses an engine that�s considerably more advanced than its predecessor. The old engine�s belt-driven, single-overhead cam design has been replaced with a chain-driven dual-overhead cam setup for better efficiency. The change helped net the engine an extra one mpg in the city on the EPA�s cycle. Additionally, the four-cylinder uses a marginally larger bore and longer stroke, tweaking displacement from 2,457cc to 2,498cc and helping to deliver an extra four pound-feet of torque 300 rpm sooner than the old 2.5-liter engine.

The new engine is still bolted to the same four-speed automatic transmission that Moses brought down from Mount Fuji. Whereas the 2010 Forester was saddled with the company�s characteristically tractor-esque rumble from under the rounded hood, the 2011 hums along with a fraction of the racket. The 2011 Forester still provides hilariously excellent driving dynamics given its lofty ride height thanks to a pile of DNA borrowed from the lovable WRX.

Japanese companies have plans for the new coupe, based on the gullwing-doored Tourer concept Hybrid (left) which debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next week.

Sitting on the range the company, was the spiritual successor to the beloved SVX (right) who arrived in 1991 and competition cars like the BMW M3.

The possibility to use the same platform as the Hybrid Tourer, the power will come from the turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine, although electric hybrid drivetrain, like the concept, is possible. An insider said Subaru cars will target fine motor performance such as the Vauxhall VXR8, the instructions on the label near the price of � 40,000.

Motor Trend magazine has named Subaru Outback Sport 2010 changed the Utility of the Year, the second year in a row that Subaru has won the prize.

For 2009, the redesigned Subaru Forester SUV won the coveted award.

"The 2010 Subaru Outback offers a unique combination of comfort, efficiency, flexibility and value," said Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend editor in chief. "It boasts a car-like repair, drivability and gas mileage on the road, but it is as capable in the rough stuff like all but the most off-road sport utility focused."

Outback is selected from the fields of new or substantially upgraded vehicles, including many of today's popular crossover, which has been sold in 12 months from November 1 last year.

During the difficult economic climate in 2009, Subaru is one of the few car manufacturers who make consistent profits in the sale, from year to year.

"To win the award for the 2009 Forester is quite beautiful, but has won the 2010 Outback for this year truly remarkable achievement," said Thomas J. Doll, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Subaru of America Inc. "Subaru Outback is an icon of performance and capability and the original SUV alternative. Now with improved strength, and increasing economic dimension is the complete package."

Motor Trend editor tests contestants on the SUV three-phase system of roads, traffic and off-road conditions, and to judge their progress in terms of design, engineering excellence, the function is, safety and value, the magazine said.

2011 Forester Info released, First Subaru to Gain New 2.5-liter Boxer

While pics of the 2011 Forester have yet to make it out the gates (the car pictured above is a 2010MY) , here is a run-through of the new lineup for the U.S. market. Other than some minor styling updates such as the new grille design and a revised instrument panel with softer materials, the big news is Subaru's brand-spanking new boxer engine we first told you about earlier today.

The new naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder boxer unit gets different bore/stroke dimensions to increase displacement from 2,457 cc to 2,498 cc and a chain-driven cam (instead of a belt-driven one).

Output remains the same as before at 170-horsepower but at slightly lower rpm, while peak torque is up to 174 lb.-ft. at 4,100 rpm, versus the outgoing boxer unit's 170 lb.ft. at 4,400 rpm.

Subaru says fuel economy is improved with both 2011MY manual and automatic models returning 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway vs. the 2010MY's 20/27 for manual and 20/26 for automatic.

The 2011 Forester's available trims will include the 2.5X (in base, Premium, Limited, and Touring), and the 2.5XT (in Premium and Touring), which keeps the current model's 224-horse turbo four.

The Touring trim option is new as well, making it the new high-line Forester.

Subaru Announces First All-New Boxer Engines in 21 Years

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), Subaru's parent company, has released details on its third-generation four-cylinder boxer engine that will be available in 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter displacements. This is the first overall renewal since the second generation was introduced in 1989. The horizontally opposed flat 4 has been a mainstay of Subaru's Impreza, Forrester and Legacy models for some time.

Subaru claims that fuel efficiency is up by 10%, thanks to a compacter combustion chamber and longer stroke, variable-valve timing (which Subaru calls Active Valve Control System) on both the intake and exhaust valves, lighter pistons and connection rods, a more efficient and compact oil pump and separate engine cooling circuitry for both the block and head.

Power for the 2.0 L engine remains the same at 109kw / 150HP, while torque is up 5 Nm to 196.

The new boxer engine has a slightly higher compression ratio of 10.5 (up from 10.2), a shorter bore (84 mm, down from 92) and longer stroke (90 mm, up from 75). Subaru has yet to release details about changes to the 2.5-liter unit.

The first Subaru to receive the third-generation boxer engine will be the Forester.
